What Is Infertility Workup?

Infertility workup is a comprehensive assessment performed for both partners before starting any fertility treatment. It examines the reproductive health of women, including ovarian reserve, ovulation, and reproductive organs. For men, it evaluates semen quality, sperm function, and overall reproductive health.


A proper infertility workup helps doctors understand the root causes of infertility for each couple. Laboratory tests, imaging studies, and procedural evaluations identify hormonal imbalances, ovulation issues, low sperm count, or structural abnormalities. These insights enable doctors to recommend a personalized and effective treatment plan, maximizing the chances of conception and a healthy pregnancy.

What Is Semen Analysis?

Semen analysis is a laboratory test performed on a semen sample to assess sperm count, motility, and morphology. It is also called a male fertility test. Men are advised to abstain from sexual activity for 2–3 days prior to testing for accurate results.

Normal sperm count ranges from 15–200 million/ml. Low sperm count (15 million/ml) is oligospermia, while absence of sperm is azoospermia. Semen analysis helps diagnose male fertility issues and guide treatment.
