What Is ICSI?

Intracytoplasmic Sperm Injection (ICSI) is an advanced fertility treatment that helps overcome male infertility. A single healthy sperm is directly injected into a mature egg to ensure fertilization, even with very low sperm quality.

ICSI is recommended for couples with severe male factor infertility, low sperm count, poor motility, or previous IVF failures. This precise technique improves fertilization rates and increases the chances of a successful pregnancy.

How ICSI Works

The process starts with ovarian stimulation and egg retrieval from the female partner. Meanwhile, the male partner provides a semen sample from which the healthiest sperm is selected.

A single selected sperm is then injected into each mature egg under a powerful microscope. Fertilized eggs develop into embryos which are monitored and later transferred into the uterus to establish pregnancy.

ICSI (Intracytoplasmic Sperm Injection) is an advanced IVF technique where a single healthy sperm is directly injected into an egg. Unlike IVF, where multiple sperm are placed near the egg, ICSI ensures fertilization even with very low sperm quality or count.

Couples with severe male infertility, low sperm count, poor sperm motility, abnormal sperm shape, unexplained infertility, or those who faced repeated IVF failures are ideal candidates for ICSI treatment.

The success rate of ICSI varies with age, egg quality, and fertility health. On average, ICSI offers a 50–70% fertilization rate per cycle, making it one of the most effective fertility treatments available today.

ICSI is considered safe and has been practiced worldwide for decades. Studies show that babies born through ICSI are as healthy as those conceived naturally or via IVF, with no significant long-term risks.
